Speaking of poorly written, perhaps I was unclear there. Amount of effort does not equal grade. Quality of work equals grade. Just because I go to lecture and read the chapters, that doesn't mean jack when I only get 70% of the questions on the exam correct.

Do they think that when they graduate, they're going to get paid extra for staying late and spending hours laboring over something that turns out to be of only mediocre quality and that someone else can do better and faster? They need to be smacked upside the head with a clue stick. And it sucks butt that you can't do that until you have a more solid footing with the tenure thing, because letting them slide doesn't help them in the long run.
