trying to remember how far west calgary is... well, if you go down I5 (through vancouver on the canadian side) i'd highly recommend stopping in bellingham at the Colophon Cafe for lunch. i'm not much good on recommending places to stay, because i can't remember the last time i rented a hotel room. i either crash at friends' places or sleep in my car. but then, i'm usually travelling with 2 dogs and on the cheap.
