long ago, beffore sewer systems and plumbing, towns would let pigs roam free in the street, and the pigs would serve the town as a sort of garbage disposal system. Not the healthiest thing, but they realized the importance of having something around to clean up, and thus it was a capitol crime to hurt or kill one of these pigs
