Absolutely appalling. But you know, the people responsible for this law will simply say that it wasn't their fault this happened, that was an unfortunate misunderstanding, that the law they passed clearly didn't apply to her, it's all Planned Parenthood's fault, blah blah blah. My view on the whole thing sums up as this: don't bitch about the abortion rate until reliable contraception is universally available. Spread birth control options far and wide, and abortion will become a whole lot less prevalent.

you would think so. but the same people who are trying (and sometimes succeeding) to ban abortions are also anti-contraceptive availability. they don't care about women's health, or people having healthy sex lives--they care about controlling people's sex lives through shame. If they REALLY wanted to decrease abortion rates, they'd be all the hell over helping Planned Parenthood hand out condoms and pills, instead of trying to run them out of business. Not dealing with people of logic here.

But they do care about healthy sex lives. A healthy sex life is one that takes place within a marriage between a man and a woman and is intended to make babies. And they think everyone should be having just such a healthy sex life!

I wrote a paper back in college about distributing birth control as a way of reducing the abortion rate. It was quite a novel idea at the time, my teacher made a whole big deal about it, said it was grad-student thesis level work, wanted to see it published, the whole 9 yards. I was kinda puzzled, because it really didn't seem like such a radical approach to me. Quite logical, actually. Now I think I *should* have published the dumb thing, gotten the idea out there 15 years ago, and maybe we wouldn't be having such a battle over it now.

It's all my fault.

Hah. yeah, cuz making a baby every year is SO healthy for women and the environment.

Darn you! You should have fixed it so someone else had to deal with this!
