Twilight

Working through; but only another 50 pages last night. Hey, I told you it would be easy to put it down and not go back, I had other stuff to do.

So now we get into the WTF sections.

The sparkly scene was actually mostly brain-shredding not because of the sparkly (which is bad enough) but because of the constant comments about how stunning his "god-like beautiful perfection" was, and how she couldn't believe this "Adonis" was talking to her. The $3 words were way over-used; I have a hard time thinking that it's a 17 year old talking, when there are obvious, more-common word choices. I mean really; "besotted"? The author tries to justify it by saying that Pride and Prejudice is the girl's favorite book, but it just comes off as an excuse for the author to use her favorite thesaurus.

AAAAAND... the creepy. I was mistaken on how creepy the boy would turn. He didn't sneak into her room once; he finally 'fesses up to having snuck into her house EVERY NIGHT for 6 weeks. And to eavesdropping on conversations with practically everyone she's talked to in the last 2 months. AND to following her everywhere she goes. First damn vampish thing the vampixie's done, which is totally fine, right? Vamps are supposed to be dark and creepy, so yay. He's finally being something resembling a vampire instead of a fairy. What I absolutely cannot stand is her reaction. She's not at ALL creeped out, or angry, to find that he's been jealously stalking her every moment, waking AND sleeping, for weeks. No, no, that's not creepy, it's not stalking, it's Fucking-A-Romantic-As-All-Hell in her dumb shit little brain. I just want to smack the hell out of the girl. Guess since she's already decided that it doesn't matter that he claims to be a murdering monster, it doesn't matter that he's a stalker too. *headdesk*

I think our wannabe Dracula ought to learn the difference between the usual vampire-style creepy and stalker creepy. Good god.

As for the thesaurism... Hell, I grew out of that sort of thing years ago.

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah; my problem is entirely with the girl. I expect vampires to be creepy-asshole-murdering-monster-things. Hell, Spike was my favorite Buffy character, and he was a psychorapistkiller. What I absolutely cannot fathom is the dipshit girl's response. She's like the girl from Oliver, that stays with the bad guy "because he needs me" and ends up dead when he gets pissed at her. Or, you know, any other person who enters into an obviously abusive relationship, instead of running like hell. I mean it's not like this is sneaking in after months or years of being together, this is huge red-flag issue on their second date. RUN, BITCH, RUN!

But oh, no... "I'm in love and there's nothing I can do, and he may be a monster, but he'll never hurt me because he loves me." Fuck.That.Shit.

Her vocabulary puts the Oxford English to shame, but the rest of her brain? Dead flies and mush.

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
exactly. It's disgusting.

Hopefully, I'll do better at this writing malarkey.

This is a review that you might find helpful. It's image heavy.

I also just want to say that I am absolutely terrified by the number of people I've seen recently assuring folks that "the book is soooo much better than the movie!"

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the book may be "soooo much better", but that's really not saying much.... it just means the movie must be garbage, if mediocre is much much better.

I can mail you books!

[identity profile] cheshirecatco.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Abort! Abort! Wave off!

(How like the movie is it? We watched the movie with the Riff Trax a while ago. While the Riff Trax ws hilarious, the movie was painfully bad. I suspect that this has nothing to do with production values and everything to do with raw material.)

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea, have never (and probably will never) watch the movie. The few things of the movie that I've seen are the constantly replayed and parodied scenes where he runs her up the mountain, which sort of happened, except he ran her back down it, not up; and the scene where he demands to hear her say out loud what she thinks he is, which also sort of happened but not really. In the book, she told him she had a theory about what he was, and he asked to hear it.

With the Riff Trax, it's worth it. Bad movies are fun when they're being mocked.

I wouldn't without that protective shield of derision, though.

So I should desist in perusing this post on my mobile electronic device from outside the window of your office lest I be deemed creepy?

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-17 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonsense. You can hardly be considered stalking if you're reading things I've publicly posted (this one's not even friends-locked!). And if you're outside the office, it's just because you're waiting to pick me up for lunch like I asked, nothing stalker-ish about that.

I am not dating a creepy stalker man. I am not in denial. I AM NOT IN DENIAL!!!!

Love you :)

Just wait till you read New Moon :) it gets better!!!

Also, I am going to honestly say that I enjoyed the FUCK out of the baseball scene int he movie. Like ti was the best thing I had seen all year. Maybe you can youtube it to see why it's so awesome. I bet there;'s a clip

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I really doubt I'll bother reading the rest of the series. Unless something changes between now and the end of Twilight, I can't see a reason. I'll wait until after the baseball scene in the book to look up the movie clip, I think.

Hah. your tolerance for "self-pity, vampire obsession, and extraordinarily dull teenage depression" is much greater than mine if you didn't find it tedious until the second book!

[identity profile] default-player.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
When I said 'it gets better', i was really referring to the creepyfactor and how unreasonably idiotic bella's character is...

and omg baseball scene. yeah, wait till after you've read it,

[identity profile] sphynx-again.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
hmm. I'm desperate for something new to read. I've been offered a loan on the series. I'm having second thoughts.

[identity profile] draggonlaady.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
I would suggest going to the library instead ;)
