Diabetes update

And good news on the diabetic cat--after several weeks of wondering if he was totally insulin non-responsive, a glucose curve yesterday had him up a pound and a half, and a bit low on the bloodsugar so I get to back off on the insulin dose and drop it into a more reasonable dose range for a cat. He had been at 8units twice daily. As a frame of reference for all the non-diabetic friends I have, the labrador I diagnosed as diabetic a few weeks ago only gets 17 units twice daily, and he's about 10 times as big as the cat.

So glad to hear about the kitty. That is a hella dose for a cat. Our poor Payci who died last year was only on 3 units twice a day.

My friend's ragingly diabetic cat is still pretending not to be diabetic anymore. I need to find out what they used on him! They decided they couldn't afford PZI, so they got something really cheap from the clinic he works at, gave it to him once or twice, and that was it! Hasn't needed it since!

guess you can't consider him ragingly diabetic anymore then ;) how long was he on PZI before they switched him? and if you remember, could you ask what they switched him to? that just sounds really weird.

He was on PZI for I believe just one bottle's worth, maybe a little more. I'm thinking that we gave them the remainder of Payci's bottle and purchased one bottle for him. And he was going through it like mad, so they didn't last long. It was seriously only about 6 weeks I think that he was on PZI. I'll see if I can find out what they switched him too, but honestly I don't talk to them very often.

well, if you think about it, i'm curious. if you don't see them that often, don't worry about it... i'm sure the curiousity won't kill me :P
