I recently purchased and downloaded an ebook. I asked the site I downloaded from why they don't accept PayPal. This is the response I got:

Please NOTE! eReader.com accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa,
Visa Check Cards and eReader.com gift certificates. Additionally, we do
not currently accept PayPal, direct wire transfers or Smart Cards.
