Well, [livejournal.com profile] hyllian did, anyway.
The stories of the people who've been fired:

These first two were before I worked here. So this story involved an associate of the clinic who was not me :)
Seems that a bloke brought in a largish German Shepherd dog for exam of something or other. Dr A heads into the exam room, and the dog, snarling, hurls himself at the doctor, missing his tackle by inches. Dr B, hearing the commotion, opens the door and enters in time to hear the owner say "I was wondering if he'd do that. He does that to most all the vets I've taken him to." Dr B promptly shows the dog and owner out the door and informs them that they are not welcome to come back.

Tale number 2 involves a cattle rancher. This happened just shortly before my time. Seems that mr cattle rancher has a hell of a mouth on him. And feels that directing this mouth and all the curse words at his disposal towards the staff of the clinic is appropriate behaviour. So when he called up for some reason or other, and was told that Dr B was busy at the moment, he launched into a rant that included calling the (newly hired and not yet sure how to react to this) technician a useless bitch. Dr B, on hearing this tale of woe, informed mr cattle rancher that he is not to call until he learns some basic civility. He called back, still swearing. He was then informed that he is not to call back, ever. He called back once more, a few months later, and when the new receptionist told Dr B that he was on hold with a question, Dr B picked told the receptionist "I don't work for him." He then picked up the phone, and told mr rancher the same.

Tales 3 and 4 happened to me. I have already told one of these stories, about the chihuahua who whelped in my bathtub. I'll save the retelling, and just link you to the previous entries:

So way back in the long ago misty depths of time, I told you all a story about a crazy stoner Beeotch who left a very pregnant chihuahua with me, said dog then whelped in my bathtub?

Well, I just saw the dog again. Beeotch has been in and out of jail, and in and out of the old man's life (much to the dismay of his son) since then, but it seems is finally out for good--they've got a restraining order against her, and have moved the man to long-term care locally here so the son can take care of things.
Dog is still very nice.
AND, the son actually paid off the bill that Beeotch racked up and then stiffed us on! hurrah!

It seems that Beeotch (of pregnant chihuahua fame) has been charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. Surprise, surprise! Here's hoping they lock her up where she can no longer abuse small dogs and old men.

Update

On the Beeotch...

One of the addresses we had for her was a trailer park that just happens to be owned by another client. So we asked her if she knew what was up with Beeotch, and where we could contact her. Her response? Big grin and "try the jail."
It seems that Beeotch has been evicted, and been in and out of jail several times, for leaving the elderly man she was supposedly caretaking for sitting outside in his wheelchair in the snow, among other things.
Elderly man and chihuahua have moved in with his stepdaughter elsewhere.

So we are exceedingly unlikely to ever see the money for November's bill. But we are also, happily, unlikely to have to deal with her again.

Well, the woman with the "very sick puppy" never called or showed up today. Color me surprised.

BUT I did get to deal with one of my very favoritest repeat customers. She was mentioned briefly in this entry http://draggonlaady.livejournal.com/64637.html but I hadn't given her a name yet... she was the one that washed the dog in Pine-Sol.
She and her hubby are back yard breeders of Golden Retrievers. I shall call them Mr. and Mrs. Miller. I first saw them last fall when one of their "best" breeding bitches decided (apparently without provocation) to kill and eat their daughter's spaniel (who I shall henceforth refer to as Chew Toy). She was prevented from accomplishing this goal only by the combined efforts of Mr, Mrs, and another gent--possibly a son? who tackled her and pried her jaws open with a rifle. Presumably, if the prying had failed they were going to shoot her.
Anyhoo...Chew Toy survived the patch him back together surgery, and Millers REBRED THE FUCKING BITCH. Great plan, that. But moving along...

Mrs Miller calls this afternoon. Seems that Chew Toy is constipated. I explain that dogs rarely get constipated, it's much more common that they have diarrhea and the irritation makes them strain when they have no feces to pass. She wants to know why the dog has diarrhea. I have no clue, there are only about three hundred things that might cause diarrhea in a dog. I'd have to see the dog to give her any more specific idea. She wants to know if it could be something he ate. Well, yes it could. But I won't know if it IS that without seeing him. But he's not one that usually eats things...Well then, maybe that's not what's causing it. BUT I WON'T KNOW WITHOUT SEEING HIM! After discussion of possible work-up including x-rays and bloodwork, she says she'll talk it over with Mr. and maybe bring him in.

Mrs Miller calls back about 20 minutes later and goes through basically the same conversation with the receptionist, except this time the dog maybe ate some chicken bones from the garbage and could he be constipated from that? again with the recommending to bring in, possible x-rays, bloodwork, etc. Again with the maybe.

Finally, at 3:15, Mrs Miller calls and says she'll bring the dog in. Since she lives almost an hour's drive away, Receptionist tells her to come straight away, as we will need time to do a thorough work up, what with the x-rays and blood work and all that we'll most likely be doing, and the clinic closes at 5.

They show up, you guessed it, at 4:40. Guess that's better than 4:50. The really frustrating part about this is that she's done the same fucking thing to me 3 times now. She KNOWS how long it takes to do this work up because we've done it on other dogs... So I didn't leave until almost 6 tonight. The story had changed again by the time they got here too. Seems that now she's remembered the dog had diarrhea day before yesterday, and nobody's seen it eat for 2 days. Oh, and it vomited day before yesterday and again today--that's why they called. (Um...what? you called because you thought the dog was constipated.) So x-rays, fecal, bloodwork later... As expected, no signs of constipation. I go through the x-rays with her, point out the interesting things, explain that there's very little in the intestines, no signs of obstruction, etc.
After which she asks me...so does it look like he's very constipated? Um. no....I guess bad on me for poor communication? Never assume that people actually pay attention to you when you're talking to them, I suppose.

Oh, and by the way...Is it ok if I come back on the 15th and write you a check then? (she drops this on me at the last minute, as I'm tallying her bill because the receptionist went home an hour ago). No. No, that's not ok. You can write me a check now, and we'll hold it until the 15th, but as with every other business in town, and as it clearly says on the placard at the front desk, payment is expected at time of services.

And updates on other things...
Cracked's limping Beast is doing better now that she's actually giving him the treatments we recommended.

Beeotch and the pregnant chihuahuah: we have still not gotten payment for her emergency call the beginning of November. The phone number we had for her, the one listed in the phone book, and the one given by 411 (all different) are all no longer in service or belong to someone else. The address we had for her is unknown per the post office. The address she gave us when she picked the chihuahua and pups up was different--and apparently has belonged to a different client of ours (who doesn't know her) for the last FIVE YEARS. So the nice, polite letter I sent telling her she's fired (and the warning notice that she's being sent to collections) never got to her. Ah well. Maybe the collections agency can hunt her skanky butt down.

The ringworm/fleas/lice/earmites scraggly rescue kitten is doing much better, but apparently spread ringworm to most of the household. Oops. Good thing I stressed the part about it being zoonotic and they should contact their doctor...

And apparently, my Cowardly Lion was the final straw that broke up the relationship between Local Breeder and Fila Woman. Hurray! So the dogs that are worth any money are being demanded back by Fila Woman, and the rest of them are staying with Local Breeder and getting fixed... she's already started scheduling spays.

No, really, I do.

Today I got to do a c-section on a mastiff with a uterine torsion. Had a total "what the fuck?" moment when I opened her up and things were all in weird places, but got it straightened out and retrieved the pups. Sadly, only one of the 4 within the twisted section were viable, but she'd already had 8 live pups before presentation, so still ended up with a sizable litter to care for.
This, by the way, is the same breeder as was mentioned earlier, when I fished the pup out of the trash. That pup is doing good, bosses her littermate around and growing like mad. Owner asked me today for my permission to name the pup after me. I have my first name-sake!

AND. Remember Beeotch, with the chihuahua? I found out today that not only did she argue about paying the whole bill for boarding, she cussed out my tech for it. ("Goddamnit, I just want my fucking dog back! All this shit over some stupid goddamn money!" and other such comments, directed also at the other clients in the lobby.) So I gave my receptionist official permission to "fire" her, and to tell her why. I don't work for people who abuse my staff. If she can't figure out how to speak civilly to my techs and receptionist, she can find her stoned butt a new doctor, because I won't tolerate it.

So the owners of the chihuahua who spent the weekend in my bathtub never bothered to call and ask about her until sunday night. Left a message on the machine, in which the man sounded drugged. Chihuahua whelped this morning--2 at my house, then I bundled her up and took her to work with me, she had the rest there. When I tried to call the owners to tell them that, I got a recorded "this voice mail box is full" thing. They called back as she was having the fourth pup. I told them what was happening, and told them that they'd be charged a boarding fee since they left her for the weekend. And told them to give her some time to have the last puppies before they picked her up, so we didn't have to disturb her any more than necessary. The guy says "ok, we'll be up to get her later." Later, apparently, means in less than 5 minutes. Cuz THAT'S enough time to have 2 babies.

Beeotch (the receptionist named this one!) comes wandering into the back room, hollering for "doctor burnette" (not the name of anyone who works here!). We asked her to wait up front, and said someone would be up in a minute, we're all currently busy doing treatments. She goes back up front, then about 3 seconds later comes back into the treatment room by way of the other hall. Once again, we tell her to go back to the lobby. "I thought someone said to come back here" No. nobody told you to come back here. We very distinctly said "Someone will be up front to help you in a minute."

One of the techs gets free and goes up front to run her bill through and get the money for the weekend boarding. Beeotch offers $5. Gee, thanks. Glad to know our services are worth so much. I DON'T THINK SO. Tech eventually gets the whole amount out of her. And once again, she comes back into the treatment area. I ask her AGAIN to wait a few minutes, and explain that the dog is in the middle of having a puppy and it would really be better if she wasn't disturbed until she's had time to clean the puppy up. Beeotch says "It won't disturb her to have me here" and opens the fucking kennel, and CALLS THE DAMNED DOG. Who of course leaves the pups (breaking the umbilical cord on the one she's just had without passing the placenta out of course), and runs over to the owner. "Please let her take care of her pups. She can go home in a few minutes." "I'm not disturbing her" "Yes, yes you obviously are, because she's NOT CLEANING HER PUP." At which point, the fucking Beeotch has the audacity to tell me that she's probably delivered more babies than I have anyway. She's living up to her name here.

So the general consensus of everyone at the clinic is that if Beeotch calls back, we don't have any available appointments. She's fired.

Have I mentioned this recently? If not, I'm slacking.
Case in point--I have a chihuahua in my bathtub. Not just any chihuahua--a VERY pregnant (as in, I rather expect I'll have 5 more chihuahuas by the end of the weekend) very sweet little dog, who's name I don't even know, because her very fucking stupid and/or stoned owner dropped her off today, and didn't pick her up. Basically dropped the dog in the tech's arms, said "x-ray her, she's pregnant and I need to know how many puppies" and walked out. Gave us no information on the dog, and the only reason we know who the fucking woman was is that one of the techs recognized her. Happily enough, she handed a handful of cash to the tech at the same time as the dog, but it was just enough to cover the films, certainly didn't include weekend boarding and puppy-watch. Given the history she has with the clinic, I'll be quite surprised if we manage to collect a boarding fee from her. We couldn't get ahold of her before closing, of course. Wonder how long it'll take her to call the emergency phone and ask if she can come pick the dog up. Sterling example of people who should fuck-all NOT be breeding dogs. Hell, she shouldn't even be keeping a dog.
