DAY 9: We left the field for the first time, went down the road and over into the un-planted fields across the way. He was great. Didn't even flinch at oncoming traffic, no fighting or bolting, just a nice pleasant walk around the area. Didn't even seem to mind getting out of sight of the other horses.

DAY 10: This was a short one, because he's lame now. Some swelling in the fetlock of his right hind leg, reluctant to let me handle that leg. Will have to get the vet out tomorrow because I can't do a good lameness exam and hold/lead him at the same time...takes too many hands.

DAY 11: And doctor confirms he's lame, found a scab on the back of the fetlock, so she thinks he got a small puncture somehow...maybe on the fence? Anyway... no more riding until he's sound again, put him on antibiotics. Thus ends my first round of horse-training.
