As if you guys thought I would ever recommend giving money to PeTA, here's a great example of why practically any other use you put it to would be better. They're offering to pay Lindsay Lohan's rehab bill to the tune of twenty thousand dollars if she spends a year as a vegan. TWENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!
Think what an actual animal rescue that was actually trying to help actual animals could do with twenty thousand dollars! What a freaking waste of people's time and donations.

But see PETA doesn't even like shelters. They'd rather see all the animals freed from the confinement and unnatural living conditions shelters provide, even if it means euthanizing them.

Besides, I don't think PETA really cares if what they do helps anything at all, as long as they get publicity for it.

My point exactly. They dupe people into thinking they are going to help animals, take their money, and waste it on bullshit like this with absolutely no regard to actually helping anything.

No. That's what they want people to think. But they don't actually run many (any?) shelters or do anything directly to help individual animals. They have a program they run every year that is supposed to provide dog houses to dogs, but they want a several-hundred-dollar donation for a SINGLE dog house. I managed to get about 10 dog houses out to low income people last winter by myself for less than their donation for a single house. And I'm not a well-funded organization with thousands of volunteers.

What they DO do is file frivolous law suits, picket veterinary association meetings, support breaking-and-entering and vandalism of research facilities and pet stores, and spread lies about what veterinary students are required to do in school resulting in a serious difficulty getting animals to learn to neuter when I was in school (bad enough that we had students bringing in their own pets for labs!).

Their mission is to eliminate all use of animals by humans. ALL use. Guide dog training is slavery. It is cruel and evil to force my pony to carry me up that hill. Though it looks like they've re-written their mission statement as published on their website so that they can hide some of their extremism from first glance.
