In contrast

to yesterday's dog bite story, here's a case where the owner clearly needs to be smacked. Please note that in this case the owner blatantly disregarded common sense, regulations, and specific instructions, and this dog bit 2 people. Please also note, that so far nobody's screaming for the destruction of the dog, presumably because it's little.

The dog is described as "that poor thing" by one commenter on the article, and while several people mention requiring the owner to pay medical costs for the bites, there's not even a single mention of quarantining the dog for rabies observation, let alone euthanizing it or declaring it Potentially Dangerous.

Statistically, you're more likely to be bitten by a smaller dog (pom or terrier) than a big dog (rottie or sheppard).
Well, maybe not you with your vocation.

But I still think that this owner should be banned from air travel.

Statistically, there's a much higher correlation between bites and intact dogs of any breed than there is correlation between bites and any particular breed. Followed closely by economic status of owner, and then way down in third place, being a terrier-type dog. So where are the huge pushes to require every dog in town be neutered, and that poor folks not own dogs? Addressing those things would be hugely more effective than breed bans. (Forgive me my bad grammar, I'm sleepy.)

And yeah; the most serious bite I've had was from a Schnauzer. I'll take a pitty or a rottie over a cocker spaniel or a dachshund any day.

I lean toward cats lately.
Mostly because I like big dogs over footballs or the little toenail-clacking-on-the-floor, yippity-yappity, pocket-sized dog-shaped purse stuffing rich women seem to need to cart everywhere.

I, too, will usually take a pitty or a rottie over anything less than ten or twelve pounds.

The only exception is a friend's dapple dachshund.
She is a puddle of cute. No living thing has the right to be that freaking cute.

So, seeing as I lean toward bigger dogs, for the sake of getting/maintaining suitable places to live, I tend toward cats.

All in all, I just miss having something fuzzy.
The snake ... well, she doesn't cuddle like a normal pet. :)

OOOH! I have a dog for you! she's medium sized, not a drop-kicker, but older so she's really quiet and calm and doesn't need or want a lot of space. She'd be great as an apartment dog; when I kick her out in the yard she looks at me like I'm betraying her and why can't she just stay inside? (Also, she doesn't chase cats)
