What, exactly, is this supposed to prove?

Playboy’s Holly Madison: ‘I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur’
Playboy model and The Girls Next Door star Holly Madison may wear bunny ears, but she’ll never wear bunny fur—and she posed naked in PETA’s latest “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” ad to prove it!

I'm missing the part that's significant about someone who poses naked for a living posing naked for an advert.

Because she is Bunny Certified Airbrushed Hotness. Any opportunity to be naked is paid for...

but she frequently gets paid to be naked anyway...so why is it significant that she's being naked for peta instead of playboy?

Because it is an opportunity for her to get paid. It is therefore not special, merely a livelihood. It is her nature to be naked for money.

right. my point exactly.

I'd rather she go naked too. So give her nothing but fur to put on.

Poor Little Dragon,
I'll forego my gut comment and give the official line on this:
A naked woman, who is a Playboy Playmate, automatically accomplishes their frist goal; raising awareness. This is the easier route. They know men are going to look at the ad this time rather than just see PETA and turn the page. Sure it may only make a difference to 1 in a million but the overall awareness of the issues gets raised.

Ok, i can see that logic.

See, I thought it proved that both PETA and Holly Madison were immune to the powers of Irony and Sarcasm. But what do I know?

Oh, PETA are generally idiotic. I'm not advocating animal cruelty, but surely there are better ways to go about it than all that rampant activism?

Of course there are better ways. PeTA is a crock of scare-tactic screaming fanatic extremists, frequently linked to illegal and/or ter**rist activity. But people give them money because "we loves the widdle animals!"

I loves the widdle animals too, but I also love chicken nuggets. It's not as if my old pet cat died because I was hungry, anyway.

Plus I'm British. What do people expect me to have with my fat, greasy chips?

yes, well... according to some of the thing's PeTA's put out, I put myself $50,000 in debt, and went through 4 years of hell being instructed by doctors who gave up much better paying jobs as specialists to be professors so that i could better learn to torture animals. After all, vetschool is where we perform multiply invasive, highly painful procedures (such as catheterization) and use mind altering drugs (would you rather I neuter the dog withOUT anesthetic?!) on the animals in our lab. Also they somehow think that we ran a lab on goats where we hit them in the chest with sledgehammers to simulate blunt trauma like getting hit by cars.
Have I mentioned that there are some pretty wacko people at PeTA?

Oh, good god.

It's even worse when you consider that they actually spend money on this farcical crusade. Money that could easil ygo toward improving the conditions of the Third World, or curing cancer, or researching better power sources than fossil fuels...

or buying dog houses for poor people's dogs. or dog food for food banks. or grants for enlarging shelter facilities, or improving shelter vet access. or good samaritan funds for people who can't afford surgery on their pets.
But that's not what PeTA's goal is. have you ever read their mission statement? do so. then come back and tell me what it means to you, and I'll tell you how I read it.

Oh, geez, I feel guilty now. Sorry.

Why? i was just saying that there are things pita could do if they really wanted to help animals. did you go read the mission statement?

From: [identity profile] evil-egg.livejournal.com
I was under the impression that you were refuting my arseholian statements.

Also, I have now read PETA's thing, but I don't quite see what I'm supposed to derive from it.

That they are against the use of animals by humans for damn near everything, including entertainment. Ok, so I have a horse. I ride him. That's entertainment, right?
How far do you think they want to take this? Personally, I think they want to take it all the way to banning all human use of animals... even for things like seeing eye dogs, and Amish cart horses.

Oh, sweet Jesus, that's madness!! Are they really that hateful of thousands (if not millions) of human evolution?!

I just double checked, and they totally changed what they have in their mission statement thing! Bastards.... now i'll have to look back and see if i can find the old one in one of my rants.

But yeah, in every interaction i've had with them, they are generally fanatic, spew misleading "information" and downright lies, and are not at all respectful of other people.

Indeed. Also, telling people that they should go vegan because of BSE (Mad Cow Disease) because they could get it from eating turkey or fish, not just beef. Which is completely unfounded.
