From Not Always Right

(A con is going on nearby, and the fast food joint is full of people in cosplay. A rather attractive woman—dressed as a cheerleader with a pink chainsaw—leaves the building with her friends. They are whistled at by two rowdy customers entering.)

Customer #1: “Hey dude, check out all these freaks in here!”

Customer #2: “Oh, God! They’re everywhere! F****** freaks.”

Customer #1: *to a male cosplayer in front of him* “Oi mate, what the f*** are you supposed to be?”

Male Cosplayer #1: “M-me? I’m ‘Karkat’ from Homestuck.”

Customer #1: “Well, you look like a joke. What the f*** are those on your head?”

(The customer flicks the orange horns clipped to the cosplayer’s hair.)

Male Cosplayer #1: “Please don’t do that; I made these myself and I don’t want them to break.”

Customer #2: “You hear that? The little freak made his own horns! Ah, I guess it’s not all bad though; did you see that chick before with the massive rack?”

Customer #1: “I know, you don’t see hot cheerleaders everyday. She’s totally going to get it off me later.”

Customer #2: “Yeah, we’ll find her and give it to her good. I’m going to squeeze those t*** of hers so hard.”

Male Cosplayer #1: “Can you please stop?! It’s really degrading to talk about women like that.”

(The whole restaurant goes quiet, and they turn to the rowdy customers.)

Customer #1: “If the slag didn’t want it, she wouldn’t have them hanging out.”

Male Cosplayer #1: “She was in costume! Besides, what does it matter how she was dressed? Clothing isn’t an invitation.”

Customer #2: “Do you want to take this outside?”

(Just then, another male customer in the corner, who also happens to be a cosplayer, speaks up.)

Male Cosplayer #2: “If you fight him, you have to fight me first!”

Customer #2: “Who said that?”

(Male Cosplayer #2 stands up to reveal he is well over 6 ft tall, and very muscular, but in costume too.)

Male Cosplayer #2: “I am Thor, Son of Odin, God of Thunder, who commands the Lightning and the Storm!”

(At that moment, a third cosplayer stands up, revealing he too is very tall and muscular.)

Male Cosplayer #3: “And I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose… to defend women from sexist pigs like you, and defend people’s right to cosplay!”

(The two rowdy customers quickly remove themselves from the restaurant, while Karkat, Thor and Loki receive a round of applause.)

Gotta take it with a sense of humor, right? Caller wants to see Dr B. Caller is informed that Dr B has retired, and is offered choice of Dr S or me. Well, is "Dr Draggon the owner?" "Yes, she is." "I don't want to deal with her, I want to see a real doctor!" "She is a licensed Veterinary Doctor, Ma'am." "That's just...no. I will ONLY deal with Dr B." "Well, I'm sorry we can't help you with that, as he has retired and is no longer taking appointments." *huff, click*

How to resist saying "That's nice, guess you'll never take an animal to a veterinarian again then." and/or "What? Dr Draggon can't be a real vet because real vets do surgery with their penis?"

Couple allegedly sold sex with captive over the Internet

PHOENIX, Arizona (AP) -- A couple held a runaway teen captive in a hollow bed frame for weeks and forced her to have sex for money with people they found on the Internet, police said.

The 15-year-old girl managed to call family members for help while 18-year-old Matthew Gray and 19-year-old Janelle Butler were sleeping Monday night, authorities said. The two were arrested Tuesday.

The girl ran away from her El Mirage home in September and met the couple through a friend about three hours after she disappeared, police Sgt. Andy Hill said. They took her to a park, bound her and had her gang raped for hours, police said.

At a west Phoenix apartment, they imprisoned her in a dog kennel for about a week and threatened her with a gun, Hill said. They sold her for sex dozens of times on the Internet, he said, and forced her to hide in a hollowed-out bed frame covered with plywood.

"She was tortured. She had a gun pointed to her head. She was told that if she tried to escape or said anything she would be killed, her family would be killed," he said.

On Monday evening while Gray and Butler were sleeping, the girl called her family and told them she was being held. She knew the general area but couldn't say exactly what address or apartment she was in, Hill said.

Investigators said they had received tips about a runaway in the complex during the past several weeks, but could not find the girl. A neighbor, Lorraine Montoya, said the couple approached her and asked if she would hide the runaway weeks ago. She refused.

"When they told me she was a runaway, I called the cops right away," said Montoya.

Police repeatedly questioned Gray and Butler, until Butler broke down and told investigators she was in the bed frame, police said. The girl underwent a medical exam and was later released to her parents.

Gray was booked on hundreds of counts, including sexual assault, kidnapping and child prostitution. Butler was booked on kidnapping, child prostitution and other charges.

Both were being held without bond.

Long list of disgusting things about this. I have to wonder if they'll try to track down any buyers. Anybody that sees more on this, please let me know?

So I guess I'm behind the times on this, and it's been an issue for a month or so, but I'm throwing this up here anyway just for the statement that the coach made last week.

Newsweek, March 1, 2004

"It was obvious Katie was not very good. She was awful. You know what guys do? They respect your ability ... Katie was not only a girl, she was terrible." U of Colorado coach Gary Barnett, criticizing former Buffaloes football player Katie Hnida's placekicking ability while discussing her allegation that she had been raped by a teammate.

As president of the University of Colorado, Elizabeth Hoffman hoped to build the school's reputation as a center for science and technology. Now she's just hoping to preserve the school's reputation, period. With the football team embroiled in an explosive rape-and-sex scandal, damage control has become a full-time job. Allegations that the football team used sex and alcohol to help recruit top high-school players first surfaced last month, in connection with a 2002 lawsuit by a female student who claimed she was raped by two recruits. Since then, rape allegations by six other women against players have come to light. It wasn't until coach Gary Barnett put his foot in his mouth last week—responding to rape allegations by a former female placekicker for the team by calling her an "awful" player—that Hoffman took action. "Rather than apologize, he tried to explain himself," Hoffman told NEWSWEEK. "I felt he just didn't get it." Hoffman suspended Barnett until April 30, when an independent commission is set to release the result of its investigation into the allegations.

Wow. Guess that's a prime demonstration of the fact that people still say stupid shit. As if the girl deserves to be raped because she can't kick the ball as hard as a guy?

And some other quotes...apparently this wasn't just a one time cock-up on Barnett's part...

From February...
"None of the players wanted her on the team," Barnett remembers. "Basically we were doing her a favor."
"At Colorado they're majoring in b.s. The denials have piled up like cordwood. You show me a coach who maintains he's unaware of recruiting parties featuring paid strippers, of four alleged rapes, of sexual harassment claims by one of his players against other players, and I'll show you a coach who is hell-bent on not knowing."
