Eagle Produce, LLC, of Arizona has announced a limited recall of certain cantaloupes shipped from Arizona to upstate New York in late May, due to their potential to be contaminated with salmonella.

Nestlé Purina PetCare Company (NPPC) is voluntarily recalling approximately 870 bags of dry cat food shipped to Colorado, Idaho and Oregon. This is being done as a precautionary measure, as the product has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The death of an Arizona man who recently visited Germany may be linked to the food-poisoning outbreak in Europe, health officials said Thursday. The man, who died in mid-June, developed a serious E. coli complication that can lead to kidney failure. But officials don't know yet if he was sickened by the same bacteria strain that has hit thousands in Europe, mostly in Germany. Health officials said the man was over 65 and lived in northern Arizona, but released few other details. His recent trip to Germany — coupled with the kidney complication — sparked suspicion the case was linked to the European illnesses, said Catherine Foley, an epidemiologist with the Arizona Department of Health Services.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services is investigating four cases of people who became sick after drinking bacteria-contaminated raw milk from a Mat-Su Valley farm. The four people infected with Campylobacter jejuni bacteria were Southcentral Alaska residents ranging in age from 1 to 81 years old. All four experienced severe gastrointestinal illness after drinking raw milk from the same farm, the only common exposure to a single food item they shared. Two of the four said family members also experienced symptoms but did not seek medical attention.
