Crazy Bird Lady Strikes Again
Aug. 14th, 2008 02:41 pmSo recently, the Crazy Bird Lady came in, spent 25 minutes of my time repeatedly discussing the same subject, kept me late (apparently didn't take the hint that everyone was shutting computers down, picking up purses, saying good night, and locking doors behind them as they left), and ended up ordering a bag of bird food that I don't keep in stock, and a nutritional supplement we were out of. I told her that I'd let her know when things got here, quoted her for the bird food and shipping costs.
Yesterday we called her to let her know everything was in.
Today she comes in, has a huge temper tantrum in the lobby because the shipping charges are "outrageous" and we've never charged her shipping before, and she's never ordering food from us again, and everything up to the line of calling the receptionist a money-grubbing, worthless, hag. I'm more than half-way sad that she didn't cross that line, as then I would be able to tell her to shove her attitude up her nose and find a different clinic. Receptionist pulled up the history of Crazy Bird Lady's account, and showed her that she had paid shipping on the last several food orders she'd put in, and that shipping this time was less than half what shipping last time was (due to the smaller size of the order). Crazy Bird Lady insists (despite seeing the clearly printed history) that we've never charged shipping, she shouldn't have to pay shipping, and she will never order food from us again. Crazy Bird Lady repeatedly declined to talk to me about it, finally paid and stormed out.
I get very tired of this game. This woman has done this several times now, swinging wildly from friendly/chatty/taking business cards to hand out to ranting about how horrid we are. She seriously needs to get her issues under control and stop taking them out on me and my staff. Sigh.

So the canary breeder mentioned earlier (http://draggonlaady.livejournal.com/104728.html) came in today. New receptionist didn't recognize her. She bought Revolution (an ivermectin cousin product) "for her dachshund". Any bets on how much of this ends up on the canaries and not on the dachshund? I'll post again if I get to treat any overdoses in the next couple weeks...
( And the case that really had me fuming today: )
Damn I get tired of stupid people and gunshot wounds.
Yes, I see gunshot wounds often enough to get tired of them. And they say the west is civilized!

As my boss so accurately pointed out today, my problem is not actually with the breeders that I deal with. It's with the people who had to have bred to have produced them!
Had to deal with two particularly fine examples today...
( Canary breeder )
Not that dog breeders are any saner than bird breeders... ( especially when they come in groups instead of individuals. )

Not a strong point with some clients.
Obviously this did not happen today. I am home being sickly, because it's a holiday weekend and that's what you do on holidays, right? bah.
Anyway... Saw a woman a while back for a flock of canaries that weren't breeding and had a slight/passing respiratory issue that seemed to move from hen to hen.
During the discussion, I asked what she was feeding, and tried to explain that the vast majority of problems with birds (and other exotics) in captivity is long-term nutritional issues due to something imbalanced in the diet. Woman about exploded. Can't POSSIBLY be the food, she's been feeding this for years and never had a problem! Absolutely refused to harbor the idea that something in her recipe might have been overlooked or an ingredient changed when she moved from down south to here. Was offended that I would even think such a thing.
So can anyone suggest a polite way of pointing out that this is equivalent to saying "I've been smoking for 20 years, and it's never hurt me before, so the recent cough cannot possibly be related."? Sigh.
Anyway, I came back to it from a different angle later, and started her on a couple different supplements to add into the food and drinking water... sneaky sneaky and without re-stating that they'd help to make up for any vitamin/mineral lackage in her homemade diet...
And, lo and behold, a few weeks later the birds are doing much better. A couple months later, they're doing excellently, and the woman absolutely swears by the supplements, without ever admitting that the ONLY FREAKING THING we've addressed is a nutritional issue.
